Out-door Self defence seminar

Fri 22nd Oct meeting at the Dojo at 6.15 for out-door self defence training. The last time we did this it was very well received I encourage you to get there. The seminar is free and is open to friends and family. Cadets may attend with parental permission. The location will be behind Garths Gym which is just a short walk from the dojo. This promises to be an “eye-opener” and offers you a perspective that you can not get training in the dojo.

Dojo Social

Next dojo social is planned for Fri 22nd Oct after the out-door self defence seminar. Meet at the Chestnut around 8:00pm ish. All welcome friends and family.

Mustard Sensei

Still places for the Mustard Sensei seminar on 28th of Oct. The seminar will take place in the upstairs Dojo. Normal classes will still be available on the downstairs dojo. Mustard Sensei will be running a seminar in the UK next year with limited attendance and the cost will be £200 for the seminar. He is doing this seminar for me at a cost of £10 per head so please take advantage of this. We currently only have 16 people attending with 14 places still available.

Junior Halloween Party

The Halloween party for Dragons and Juniors is scheduled for 29th Oct, during normal class time. Its fancy dress and bring a friend. Look out for invites and posters in the dojo.

Clubmark - Spotlight

Clubmark has done a spotlight on one of our instructors from our Preston Dojo, well done Jayne.

There is no mandatory regulation placed on Martial Arts tuition in the UK. As such the quality of tuition and the standard of service can vary widely. Often poor service is tolerated simply because people dont know any different. Self appointed chief instructors and masters have free range to do as they wish. Recognition by foreign bodies is absolutely no guarantee of the standards and quality on offer, or that systems are in place to ensure the welfare and safety of students.

CLUB MARK Accreditation guarantees stringent standards have both been met and maintained. Standards set and recognised by SPORT ENGLAND. Be sure your children are in the right hands; be sure you make the right choice. Let CLUB MARK choose for you

News 30th Sep and Oct Mat chats

Shudokan Black Belt Academy

Life skills training- Mat chats - Dragons and Juniors

In the month of October we will be discussing the following topics with the students to teach them about qualities we can all develop in order to lead happy and successful lives.

 WEEK 1. CONFIDENCE. This week we will be discussing the importance of self assurance and having the belief in your ability to succeed. We will also discuss the meaning of having confidence and trust in others to do right and act in a proper and reliable manner.

WEEK 2. DISCIPLINE.  This week we will be discussing the importance of learning to behave in an acceptable, calm and controlled manner. We will also discuss how we all have the ability to develop our self-control to change behaviour, learn something new or train for something.

WEEK 3. LOYALTY. This week we will be discussing with the students the importance of staying positive about, and showing a mutual respect for, somebody or something we feel attached to. We will also discuss how this can lead to acts of humility and devotion, particularly with regard to duties in Japanese Aikido Dojos and the meaning of ‘Samurai’.

 WEEK 4. HONESTY. Our last discussion of the month will examine the qualities of being fair, truthful, and morally upstanding. We will also discuss situations involving other people who may try to influence our honesty in a negative way and strategies we can employ to maintain our integrity and resolve the situation in a positive way.

We encourage you to discuss these themes with your child often. This will, of course, help to solidify these ideas into their memory bank and allow them to more fully utilise these themes into their lives.

Parachute Jump

Tomorrow is the day but sadly the weather forecast is not good so keep your fingers crossed. If the jump is postponed we will be looking at a date in April.

New Staff

Sensei Jo and I are back from a short break and also sempai Matt Thurman is joining the team today so we are back up to full strength. A big thanks to Sensei Rachel and JT and sempai Cassius for helping out while we were away.

New update 27 Sep 2010

Testing all this week, dont miss out, if you have 8 tags you are good to go.

NEW STAFF

Looking forward to having Matt Thurman join us next week on the full time staff team, its been very busy with just 3 of us. Matt has spent most of his time training in Oxford but has now moved to Nottingham. He will be doing his Shodan test in November.

A quick note on attitude

The longer I live the more I realise the impact of attitude in on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think say or do. It is more important than appearance, gifted-ness or skill. It will make or break a company, a church or a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past, we cannot change the fact that people will act a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string that we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% of what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you……….. We are in charge of our attitudes.

New update 23rd Sep 2010

Testing starts next week, nearly everone should be good to go. Try not leave it to the end of the week as things are going to be busy for us and an even spread of testing all week will help us out. I am still away enjoying a short break but keep getting into trouble because I keep talking about the dojo. Ooops.

No more news for you just now so I will leave you with this defenition of success by:

Ralph Waldo Emerson

SUCCESS

To laugh often and much;

To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;

To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;

To appreciate beauty;

To find the best in others;

To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;

To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived;

This is to have succeeded.

News update 13th Sep

FOCUS OF THE WEEK

Curriculum all this week and next week. Testing starts on Mon 27th Sep so everyone has had plenty of time to get 8 black tags. If not use your catch up classes

SHUDOKAN OUTING

If I can generate enough interest I am proposing a Shudokan camping trip next year. Somewhere central to make it easy for all UK Shudokan schools to attend. Over a week-end it should be pretty cheap, all you will need is a tent and sleeping bag. It would be a good opportunity for the UK schools to get together in a social environment and have some fun without it costing the earth. Juniors and Dragons welcome with mums and dads. Let me know what you think and if you would be interested.

PRESTON DAN GRADINGS

I conducted Dragon and Junior Dan gradings in Preston over the week-end. They did a fantastic job check out the videos.

 NEW STAFF MEMBER

A big WELCOME to Matt Thurman who will be joining the team as a full time employee in the very near future. Nice to have another pair of hands to help out. All being well on his first day of employment we will throw him out of an aeroplane form 16000 feet. It’s pretty exciting working here.

 FIREWALK

 Still need lots of names for the firewalk on 19th Nov. Bring along friends family and work colleagues, £10 per head all goes to CLIK Sargent charity, caring for young people with cancer.

Confidence is a major focus for this week to make it easier for our children to make new friends when returning to school.
